Mother’s Day Tips

The meaning of being a mother is virtually endless. A mother is a protector, disciplinarian, and friend. She is a selfless, loving human who may sacrifice many of her wants and needs for the wants and needs of her children. A mother works hard to ensure her child is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to become a competent human being. Being a mother is perhaps the hardest, most rewarding job a woman will ever experience.

Take time to show mom how much you appreciate her. Here are a few tips on how to make mom feel special.

1. A family outing.
Have a nice picnic or an outing at the park.

2. Create mom a coupon book.
Most mothers share a common thread, they are the glue that holds the household together. It’s a great deal of stress taking care of everyone and everything.
Create mom a coupon book with coupons she can use any time she needs a break. Coupon ideas include cooking, cleaning, massages, chores, taking her to dinner, date night, or taking care of some of the items on the honey-do list. Coupon books are great for involving children too. Let them suggest some ideas for coupons they think mom might enjoy.

3. Cook mom’s favorite dinner.
Spring is the perfect time for a nice home cooked meal or BBQ out on the patio. Cook her favorite dinner and top it off with mom’s favorite dessert.

4. Offer up some peace and quiet.
Most moms love to have some quiet, alone time to do some things for her. She might not want to take it on Mother’s Day. Schedule time for her to get away. Involve the kids and clean the house spic and span while mom is out enjoying some quiet time.

5. New pictures of her kids/grandkids.
Surprise mom with new photos of the kids or grandkids. It doesn’t have to be anything professional.  Grab a few inexpensive frames and place your new photos around the house.

6. Bring new life to her timeworn photos and videos.
This is a project many moms would love to take on, maybe the technological aspect is holding her back. With a nice scanner or the use of a service provider, you can digitize mom’s old photo albums. Do the same with her home movies so she can enjoy them from her laptop or  DVD player.

7. Manicure, pedicure, or massage.
Moms like being pampered, and they deserve it. Treat the mom in your life to a little R&R  buy her a gift certificate to her favorite salon. These are great gifts because they are consumable. If you want to add a bonus to the gift, plan to enjoy the salon with mom.

8. Gift cards are better than nothing.
If you waited too late to mail something on time, email a gift card from it’s better than nothing at all. Call mom, wish her a Happy Mother’s Day, then tell her you sent an email with her gift card attached. She’ll be thankful for the conversation and the online shopping spree afterward.
